[ CHARACTER INFO ]
Birth Name: Cessily Kincaid
Nicknames: Cess
Codename: Mercury
Age: 23
Gender: girl
Ethnicity: Irish-American
Mutant Abilities: Cessily's body is made of a non-toxic, malleable, mercury-like substance. She can cling to walls or form herself into various weapons and tools. She doesn't need air or food, and alcohol and other drugs don't affect her (although she still eats and breathes to feel more normal -- also because her sense of taste still works fine, and she can't speak without air to move over her vocal cords). She can't shift back to her organic, "normal" human form. She can bond with other organisms as a protective or weaponized shield or covering, and her body is very hard to damage. She is apparently immune to powers that mess with physiology, like those of Wither and Wallflower. She is weak to electricity and large bursts of current can incapacitate her, as can extreme heat. Her skin is metallic silver, but her hair is still red, indicating she might be able to change back at least to a more normal color if she knew how.
Affiliation: Xavier
[ APPEARANCE ]
Height: 5'4
Weight: 124
Hair Color: bright red
Eye Color: silver with no pupils
Defining Traits: She's made entirely of a silvery, malleable metal. When she's at rest, her flesh feels like normal flesh, but it's a little cooler and silver. Her hair is still the bright reddish-orange it was before her mutation manifested, but when she's molding herself into another form her hair will turn silver and metallic like the rest of her.
Clothing Styles/Colors: Cessily is a former cheerleader with all the girly-girl trend-follower tendencies that go with that, so she tends towards bright colors and trendy fashions. Otherwise she goes for things that are comfortable and easy to get into and out of -- when she shifts form she can't make her clothes shift with her, and she finds looser things easier to reconstitute into correctly (without having her head through an arm hole, for example).
[ PERSONALITY ]
General Likes: food, her hair, movies, hanging with other girls, dancing, swimming, flirting, being social
General Dislikes: bugs, dirt, vulgarity, loud music, unnecessarily mean people, feeling like a freak
Skills Mastered: She was a cheerleader, so she's got intermediate skill at gymnastics in addition to the agility her malleability gives her.
Astrological Sign & Birthday: June 23, cancer
Sexual Orientation: straight
Positive Traits: curious, intelligent, determined, patient, works to improve herself, thinks creatively, assertive, sense of humor, reads people pretty well, very social, comfortable with leadership, good at communication, explains things on any level easily
Negative Traits: pessimistic, haughty, a little prissy, stubborn, sometimes loud, gets overly excited, terrible temper when set off, overly blunt, sometimes aggressive, given to quick mood swings
[ ETC ]
Personal History: Cessily Kincaid had an idyllic childhood in Portland, Oregon, the only child of Mark and Jill Kincaid, second-generation Americans whose parents hailed from Ireland. Her parents provided her with everything she wanted as long as she worked hard and was respectful, and as a result she always had the coolest clothes and the prettiest makeup, along with the best grades and best athletics. A brief stint with field hockey in middle school taught Cessily that she should not be involved in any contact sports (for the sake of the other girls), so she turned to cheerleading instead. This worked out much better, and she cheered through middle school and part of high school.
Then, when she was sixteen, Cessily's mutation manifested. She'd always been a fairly healthy child, never seeming to get very sick, so her doctors visits had been only minimal -- otherwise someone might have realized earlier that Cessily was, at the very least, not carbon-based. This condition seemed to have silver skin covering Cessily's body. Cessily and her parents were humiliated by this, and Cessily was kept inside, out of sight, away from public view for two weeks, before her parents learned of Xavier's academy and sent her there.
It's not that Cessily's parents didn't love her, but they were a very conventional family, with conventional values, who used words like "tolerance" instead of "acceptance" and were not at all sure how to feel about mutants. Cessily understood this and was glad to go to a place where she could be around others like her who could understand her and help her live as normally as possible. At Xavier's, she learned the true extent of her mutation, that she was composed of liquid metal and could mold herself into almost any form at will. Due to the liquid metallic aspect and the shiny appearance when she wasn't molded into a specific form, Cessily adopted the code name Mercury.
She graduated high school at Xavier's and then college, getting a degree in home economics. Due to her appearance, chances of getting a job at a mainstream school seem quite slim, so she installed a stove and a sink (or possibly bot one of the boys to do it for her) and started teaching Home Ec at Xavier's. Some mutants make heat and some fix things, but the rest have to know how to cook and sew just like everyone else.
Extra: Also gives training in shapeshifting, especially non-humanoid.
[ RELATIONSHIPS ]
FAMILY
father, Mark Kincaid
mother, Jill Kincaid
[ OOC ]
Role Play Sample: Cessily walked down the aisle to the seat she wanted, pausing and checking to each side to see that she was as close to the middle as she could get. Third row middle, she never sat anywhere else in a theater, no matter who might have gotten there first or who was with her. For now, she was alone, settling down in her seat, ignoring the people who were looking at her. Her skin shone metallically and was clearly devoid of color in this low light, and she shifted uncomfortably. She wondered what they would say to her melting straight out of her seat, straight out of her clothes and onto the floor, then crawling up their legs, but she was not at all sure she could shift back into her clothes correctly, and this was pretty much the only thing that kept her in her seat. So she kicked off her sandals and put her feet up on the back of the seat in front of her, the bright purple polish she'd allowed Kiona to apply to her toenails standing out brightly against her skin.
"Hey! Psst! Hey!" Cessily frowned and sat up in her seat, looking around to see who was calling to her, when a piece of popcorn bounced off her nose, making her flinch. "Mutie freak!" someone hissed. Cessily narrowed her eyes and looked around, spotting a group of teenage boys hunkering down in their seats a few rows back and sniggering to each other. Half-tempted to go shout them down, or thoroughly creep them out, she forced herself to sit back in her seat and count to ten, like Gramma Rose had always taught her. Then again, until she wasn't mad anymore. Gramma Rose was from the old country, and when she was little Cessily had been sure that she knew the best way to deal with anything.
Still, she was perhaps a little more aggressive than necessary as she opened her cookie dough bites, practically gutting the box like a deer carcass. The little plastic bag inside fell on the floor and she scowled, bending to pick it up. She glanced at the door as she sat back up, then did a double take. Her face split into a grin, forgetting about the stupid teenagers, and she waved, flagging down someone she knew from the Mansion to come sit with her.
